Sośnicowice

Sośnicowice - a tiny city whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, it was founded among beautiful pine forests. There are no pine trees anymore, the town is now surrounded by arable fields, but the name was left as a reminder of those times. This is my second visit to this place - you will find other attractions in this post.

The first place worth seeing is a slightly neglected palace - a late baroque building that was erected in 1755 by Karol Józef von Hoditz in the place of a medieval castle. Near the palace, there is a landscape park. From 1965, it houses the Nursing Home "Ostoja".

Saint John of Nepomuk is a frequent visitor to the Silesian land. He is an advocate during the floods but also a patron of bridges. According to folk tradition, he was a saint who protected fields and crops against floods, but also drought. That is why the statues of John Nepomuk can still be found today along the roads near bridges, rivers, but also on public and church squares and at road intersections. It is similar in Sośnicowice - it stands behind the Saint James Church.

Sośnicowice

Sośnicowice - a tiny city whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, it was founded among beautiful pine forests. There are no pine trees anymore, the town is now surrounded by arable fields, but the name was left as a reminder of those times. All the attractions that I describe in this post are in a very close neighborhood of Saint James Church.

Chapel of St. Barbara is on the square next to Saint James Church. The chapel was built in 1986 and it looked like a fragment of a drift in the mine. The walls are made in the shape of curved arches supported on a metal frame. Such frames are used in mines for the construction of drift. Inside the chapel, there are helmets and mining lamps. Above the chapel is the inscription "Szczęść Boże". Inside the chapel, in its central place is a figure of Saint. Barbara - patrons of miners. St. Barbara, wearing a white robe and a crown on her head, holds a sword in her left hand, and a goblet in her right hand.

Conciliation cross is located nearby. It was probably created between the 14th and 16th centuries. According to tradition, such a cross was put by the killer at the crime scene. However, it is only a hypothesis that this medieval, stone cross is a conciliation cross, which has no basis for any evidence so far.

Saint James Church - a late-Gothic parish church from 1447, rebuilt in the Baroque style in the years 1786-1795. Next, to the church, there are crosses about various causes of the foundation. One cross is founded in honor of people, who died during both World Wars.
