Jankowice

Jankowice (called Rudzkie to distinguish from Jankowice near Rybnik) is a small village located by the road from Rudy to Racibórz, surrounded by forests. The oldest surviving document mentioning Jankowice is the document of the bishop of Wrocław, Tomasz I, from 1264. People who dealt with forest care, collecting coniferous seeds and growing forest areas were settled here.

According to legend, the knight Janik is the founder of the village. He was an affectionate friend of the Prince of Racibórz, who offered him a piece of land for his faithful service. To commemorate this legend, a knight figurine was carved out of linden wood in 2009.

Bell of St. Florian is in the Chapel of St. Isidore the Laborer, although it is older by about 171 years. The bell was cast in Opava in 1731. According to the oral tradition, before the bell was placed in the chapel, it was placed in the court chapel. His voice warned people against fire and all kinds of misfortunes.

Sośnicowice

Sośnicowice - a tiny city whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, it was founded among beautiful pine forests. There are no pine trees anymore, the town is now surrounded by arable fields, but the name was left as a reminder of those times. All the attractions that I describe in this post are in a very close neighborhood of Saint James Church.

Chapel of St. Barbara is on the square next to Saint James Church. The chapel was built in 1986 and it looked like a fragment of a drift in the mine. The walls are made in the shape of curved arches supported on a metal frame. Such frames are used in mines for the construction of drift. Inside the chapel, there are helmets and mining lamps. Above the chapel is the inscription "Szczęść Boże". Inside the chapel, in its central place is a figure of Saint. Barbara - patrons of miners. St. Barbara, wearing a white robe and a crown on her head, holds a sword in her left hand, and a goblet in her right hand.

Conciliation cross is located nearby. It was probably created between the 14th and 16th centuries. According to tradition, such a cross was put by the killer at the crime scene. However, it is only a hypothesis that this medieval, stone cross is a conciliation cross, which has no basis for any evidence so far.

In the center of the village of Siedliska stands a stone chapel dedicated to Saint. John of Nepomuk. Its origins date back to 1872. The chapel was built as a votive offering from the inhabitants of Siedliska for the ending and return of people from the French-Prussian war.
