The Necropolis of Arteara is the largest cemetery of this kind on the island, both in terms of size and number of mounds. It is located on the malpaís, barren, rocky area formed by the volcanic rock.
Arteara was also a center of astronomical research, revealing how much knowledge the ancient Canaries had to have about the stars, to the extent that they built the "Tomb of the King" in such a strategic place that the sun illuminated it well on the equinox.
